A good primer on NVQ's and European Qualifications Framework

grif280's picture

Hello, I'm a Canadian working with a number of industrial clients in North America, and would like to know if there is a good primer/book/tutorial on the UK NVQ system and the European Qualifications Framework. We'd like to model a new qualification scheme for industrial skilled trades on the NVQ.

Thanks in advance for any help folks can provide.

City and Guilds

Hi Grif

If I was setting up a new system I would look no further than City and Guilds who have offices in North America.

They are internationally recognised and will guide you through the NVQ process.

Much easier than reinventing the wheel.

Good luck

Steve

QCF

Hi,

I would agree with the last post, City & Guilds would definately be a good starting point. They will also provide you with a great deal of information about the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This is changing the face of vocational qualifications and particularly NVQ's, but will remain to be competency based and work orientated.

Hope this helps.

SSC

Grif

I'd get in touch with the relevant Sector Skills Council for your industry, there are 25 here in the UK representing about 90% of employers. SSC develop the National Occupation Standards on which NVQ's are based http://www.sscalliance.org/. Once we know what the job competencies are,  qualifications and their assessment strategy can be developed by awarding bodies such as City and Guilds. The relevant SSC can provide you with the NOS/NVQ standards for the job roles within their sector.

Hope this helps Gerry
