Icebreaker for mixed group

I am running a course next week for 8 people. 5 of these people know each other really well already, and 3 are totally new to the group.

Can anyone suggest a good icebreaker which would help assimilate the new people to the group without boring the "old hands"?

Thanks

Ice breakers

Icebreakers are not always designed to bring strangers together. Sometime you can use them to get people more comfortable with each over a task or shared experience and then go from there.

Here are a collection of Ice Breakers you can use for your training needs.

Hope this helps.

Ice-breakers & energisers

Funnily enough.... We've got a great compilation of ice-breakers & energisers on site today here!

It contains links to lots of other sources of ice-breakers & energisers as well.

online icebreakers?

Have you thought about online icebreakers. A friend at NCSL (@kevinmulryne) put out a call for online icebreakers and he is collating them. You can view the first 5 at:

we uploaded one of our to http://blog.realprojects.co.uk/2009/07/online-icebreakers/

Ice Breakers

If the start of the session is interesting, thought provoking and involves everyone (which it should anyway) there isn't a need for ice breakers.

If I attend an event where the trainer needs to have a game before we start I tend to think they don't really know what they are doing!
