STAR technique in interviews

Can anyone help me find out where STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) originated from? It is in reference to interviewers asking questions to help them probe in behavioural interviewing?

Many thanks

Nichola,

I first came across this when I undertook a Targetted Selection course run by a company called DDI. It's an interview technique whereby through questioning of candidates for a job you establish STARS for them.

I've also come across similar working with an outplacement agency recently as a technique to help candidates put together CV's.

If I can fill in any more for you then feel free to give me a call - 0776 0266 047.

Regards,

Phil's right. It's DDI. They've used it for many years in both interviewing and Performance management - (for tracking actual performance events). They also use STAR - AR, introducing the notion of "Alternative".
