Online training

Hi

I am looking to propose bite sized online training in the organisation and am trying to compare system providers.

I want something sophisticated enough to allow me to design and deliver interactive training session (not meetings or presentations)

I have so far found GoToTraining & Webex as options.

Can anyone comment on these, or recommend others for me to look into

    I’ve had a scout round in the past and tried Webex and Dim Dim

    I found Dim Dim a bit clunky and not intuitive

    Webex I find to be very straightforward to use and really quite intuitive, it is also pretty easy for delegates to use even as first-timers.  A word of warning though, make sure you register on .co.uk (I’m assuming that you are UK based) if you want to use Webex’s conference call facilities; initially I accidentally registered in .com and only got a conference call option in the US (which would have been a bit expensive!)

    Sorry to go on to "teach Granny to suck eggs" but IF you aren’t familiar with using online facilities for training it isn’t just a matter of using the same materials online as you’d use face2face.  There are quite a few differences not only in the technicalities (Powerpoint is very different on the 15 inch monitor compared to on a projected screen, and many of the ‘features’ don’t work) but also in the dynamic, both for the delegates and the trainer.  There are things you can’t do online that you might do as second nature in a classroom and there are things that are easier for delegates online than in a training room. 

    I have been running face2face training since the 1980s, and I’ve worked with groups of up to 70, I’ve worked with groups who were hostile and groups were were barely sentient, but being distant from the delegates, alone in a room is very different, even when you have video link and can see the delegates.  I ran an online module last week with a delegate from Russia, one from the Czech Republic, two from India (in Dubai) and one from Brazil.  it went very well and everyone stayed engaged and interacted fantastically, but by the end I was utterly shattered! I ran one a couple of weeks ago with all the delegates from the UK and it was still tiring!

  3. Options for online training

    Hi Lorenza

    We developed soLearn which is primarily an on-line assessment tool. However, we have incorporated learning materials prior to testing and developed pre-training assessment programmes as well.

    soLearn monitors and tests knowledge of process, capability and also behaviours with the 360 feedback module.

    We have the capability to incorporate video also.
