Setting up a business is always going to be hard, but to try it as we are barely leaving one recession & still teeter on the brink of another is surely total madness? So "why, why, why, why why?" am I doing it is a question I ask myself at least 30 times a day.
There are many answers to the question but it boils down to this, I care passionately for the L&D profession and all that we are lucky enough to be in a position to achieve. We are there to inspire other people with confidence to develop, to grow and to aspire to take the next step, and the one after.
Yet it is so easy to get caught up in the bustle of daily life & forget to do the same for ourselves. This is my opportunity to apply the learning back in the workplace. My challenge to myself is, I really want to do this, so how can I make the impossible, possible?
This blog is a chance to document and reflect on the journey. If any of you have insights to inspire and challenge, please do feel free to share; your wisdom will be gratefully received.

Have you ever truly hated your job? Have you ever dreaded the alarm going off in the morning because you knew it meant you had to head off to work? Have you ever needed to force a smile onto your face at work because you were so miserable inside?
Have you ever found yourself struggling to do your job to the best of your ability simply because you lack the motivation to do it brilliantly?
How unhappy and frustrated did it leave you feeling?

Have you ever found yourself in a room filled with anticipation? You are waiting, the guest presenter is almost ready. You've been one yourself; you know adrenalin is pumping, clothing adjusted & breathing calmed. You urge them on hoping to be wowed; you want them to do well.
But fast forward 10 minutes & you're thinking, "I just don't get it." You look around the room; it's a sea of rapt faces, you search, you look & you think, "maybe it's just me?" Then, relief as you spot another confused face in the crowd wondering what they are missing.

Every school has them, the kids who are achingly trendy & effortlessly beautiful. The 'untouchables'; everyone wants to be like them. Do they shower twice a day in a special 'cool spray' to get that cool?
How hard did you try to be like them? How much did you want to be at the centre of everything, just like them? How much did you wish that people noticed you, wanted to be like you?

We've all been there haven't we? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, we love our job, we feel relaxed; all is well in our world. But slowly we become aware of something unpleasant, a fog is descending, a poison slowly spreading.
We are too polite to say anything, but our irritation grows. We have no choice, we must go, we must escape; we must find a way out.
And so I found myself this week, enjoying the March sunshine, waiting for my London-bound train; excited by the meeting ahead. Life felt really good. Then a voice broke through that joy....

Have you ever had one of those wonderful moments that makes you giddy as a teenager but yet feeling suddenly ever so grown up all in one hit? When the butterflies in your tummy go into overdrive? When something you have wanted for quite a ling time suddenly seems within touching distance?
A moment that makes you say "blimey, I am more than a little bit happy." A moment that sees you dancing like an idiot around the kitchen table, with a face like the Cheshire Cat? It happened to me this week & it felt brilliant.
