Confessions of a Consciously Incompetent Trainer

A few years back I was a wide eyed L plated trainer, and boldly told my manager I was going to go and get qualified so I knew everything there was to know, in order to be the best trainer I could possibly be.

It took me about three months to realise the journey from conscious incompetence to conscious competence was going to be a long one, and another year to realise it was never going to happen.

I try my best, I really do, but just as I think I've got the hang of something I find a new slant to try or some more research to add.

I love my job, and maybe the reason is beause I can never get to the point when I know everything?

The CMI is concerned that too few managers are taking a break this year, and won’t get the chance to recharge their batteries. What situation are you in? Are you holidaying this year?

The CMI has a range of resources to help support managers so they can take a breather, like the delegation checklist on TrainingZone.
