I enjoyed being back in London recently and to feel the buzz of the forthcoming Olympic Games. (As an aside, I still think the decision to host the Equestrian 3 -Day Event, which is my favourite event, in Greenwich Park was unsustainable and misguided.)

One of the many things I like about Roma is its doors. Or more specifically its big doors – i portoni.

They are Huge. Sturdy. Beautiful. Imposing. Inviting. Mysterious. Proud. 

Perhaps as many beautiful doors there are in Rome, there are quotes about doors. One of my favourites: “the doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live” (Flora Whittemore).

Leaders create leaders. That’s what I believe.

You know the ones. Those self assured inspirational leaders who are not afraid, infact actively seek, to recruit people who are more gifted than themselves.   The ones that actively mentor talent. The ones that ensure succession planning is implemented with vigour and rigour.
