The Apprentice 2010

Back to blog homepage for: If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as nail

Love it, or hate it... The Apprentice is back on our screens! It will, I'm sure, make for compelling television again as Lord Alan Sugar fires, and for one individual hires, future business masterminds. Now the show and it's contestants are subject to heavy editing, but I'll be blogging each week casting opinion, analysing some 'lessons' to be learnt, and maybe drawing parallels to the 'real world'.

This year, a couple of changes, firstly Sir Alan is now Lord Sugar, and long-time aide Margaret Mountford has stood down and is replaced by Karen Brady of Football Chairmen fame. So, who is taking part...

Alex Epstein (26) - Claims he originally conceived an idea similar to the bendy bus, an unemployed Head of Communications, who describes himself as "unconventional"

Chris Bates (23) - Passionate about rugby, Gordon Ramsay and money-making, an Investment Banker, who considers intelligence to be his biggest strength

Christopher Farrell (28) - Ex-Royal Marine Commando who served his country for ten years, a Mortgage Broker who describes himself as "focused and driven”

Dan Harris (34) - Budding entrepreneur was once an extra in the hit movie Saving Private Ryan, a Sales Director who once held a world record for mountain climbing

Jamie Lester (28) - Before moving into developing properties, Jamie used to sell them as an estate agent, an Overseas Property Developer who set up his own company at the age of 24

Joanna Riley (25) - Rose from humble beginnings to corporate success with her business, a Cleaning Company Owner who describes herself as "honest, direct and funny"

Joy Stefanicki (31) - A keen traveller who lived in Peru and New York before the recession struck, a Marketing and PR Director who tarted her working life cleaning dishes

Laura Moore (22) - Cites Anita Roddick as one of her biggest business inspirations, a Business Development Manager who grew up wanting to be a pilot or astronaut

Liz Locke (24) - Fashion, food and fitness are all key to the former trader's lifestyle, an Investment Banker who claims to be "ambitious, energetic and loyal"

Melissa Cohen (27) - Ditched hairdressing to make a snip in food business management, a Food Business Manager who is inspired by entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson

Paloma Vivanco (29) - The globetrotter started her working life frying donuts in Donut King, a Senior Marketing Manager who views herself as a "no nonsense" candidate

Raleigh Addington (22) - Coached tennis after graduating with a degree in Economics and Politics, an Unemployed Graduate who cites John Cadbury as a business inspiration

Sandeesh Samra (26) - Believes that keeping the customers happy is the key to success, a Recruitment Consultant who began her career working in a toy shop

Shibby Robati (27) - Believes that knowing his own weaknesses is his greatest strength, a Surgeon and Business Owner who claims to be a handy impressionist and comedian

Stella English (30) - Left school with no qualifications, but flourished in a Japanese bank, a Head of Business Management who is inspired by Bill Gates and Steve Jobs

Stuart Baggs (21) - The Apprentice's youngest ever candidate used to sell yo-yos in his playground, a Telecoms Entrepreneur and lover of fast cars and technology

Let's see who is first to go....!!!

must we...?

I'm all for fun but must we give this show the oxygen of publicity on this website? The show is heavily edited and altered and the contestants increasingly hand-picked for maximum entertainment (which is, after all, the main point of the show). It has as much connection to good business as the X factor does to the creative process of writing songs.
