Discussing learning aims with client

default-16x9

Hello,

I will be doing my first freelance session (on writing skills) in June, and have my first meeting (my boss has met them when selling the course) with the client to discuss expectations/their experience.

I am an experienced teacher and trainer, but have not had to do this kind of meeting before, as I have only taught public courses previously.

Does anyone have any tips for questions I should ask, or how to structure this meeting?
Any ideas would be very welcome!

Many thanks,

Emma

Firstly speak with your boss and find out what the parameters are for you…you don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

Then look at the Kirkpatrick model and base some questions on that
    Eg
~What are you looking for in terms of the evaluations at the end of the course?
~What differences in knowledge and behaviour will the managers of these delegates be looking for afterwards?
~What business benefits do you expect this to bring?
    ~How will you measure/capture the above….

It is also worth considering the culture of the client…
~What is the current level of expertise?
~What level of prework will be appropriate (time, facility, technology, will)
~What style are the delegates used to?
~What level of handouts is appropriate (check also with your boss what level they will pay for!)

This isn’t a comprehensive list but hopefully it will help get you started
