Welcome to this week's digest of just some of the items posted to the
TrainingZone site during the past week.
This week we've launched an important new technical improvement to the
TrainingZone website. Everytime you click on a story to read it, in
addition to seeing the article itself, you will find a panel to the right
of the screen offering you a choice of related news items and Internet
postings. This will make it even easier for users to follow their own
lines of enquiry.
Plenty of other news this week. TrainingZone itself has received a Human
Resources Recommended Site award from MCB

We are investigating the possibility of recruiting some assistant editors
who would be responsible for monitoring and posting aspects of news to the
site. Initially, we'd like to find one or two people willing to be 'guest

Education and Training Development Agenda: Towards 2000

The Department for Education and Employment has just published a major
review of training and education progress since May 1997, together with its
strategic overview of policy initiatives to promote training and education
over the next few years. The whole document can be read online, or
downloaded as Adobe Acrobat files. There's also a summary documents to
give you an overview. An important publication (amidst a flood of other
publications from the DfEE!)

Individual Learning News - Issue 7, March 1999

The latest online issue of ILN from the DfEE's Individual Learning
Directorate includes more than 20 feature items including material on
Lifelong Learning Partnerships, ESF Objective 4 funding, the Skills Task
Force, local authority Lifelong Learning development plans, and updates on
the Adult and Community Learning Fund, the Lifelong Learning National
Conference, and the recently announced Local Information Advice and
Guidance initiative.
This site continues to be an excellent example of online and up-to-date
publishing bringing an excellent combination of both news and ideas
exchange. It's just a shame that the "notify me of changes" facility on
the site doesn't work.

Employment Service offers to take on TECs training role

During evidence to a House of Common Select Committee hearing recently, the
head of the Employment Service suggested that the experience of his
department in areas such as the New Deal meant that the Employment Service
would be in a good position to take on the training role of TECs, creating
a closer integration with the employment function.
