Bank holiday blues gives rise to unhappy workforce

default-16x9

British employers are finding that workers returning from the bank holiday break have a renewed energy to realign their work/life balance – even if it means finding another job.

According to the latest research from online careers website Monster.co.uk, post bank holiday blues are being blamed for a rise in the number of staff seeking alternative employment, particualrly after spending time with their families and loved ones, with the Tuesday after bank holiday being the prime day for job hunting.

The research revealed that almost half of UK workers are likely to look for a new job after an extra day off with 33% saying that they would definitely plan to job search.

Monster’s life coach Jenny Ungless said: "People use their weekends to recover from the week at work, catch up with chores, see friends etc, the bank holiday Monday gives them that extra day to take stock and consider issues such as job satisfaction, career progression etc."

Employers are being advised to ensure their staff start their bank holiday in a positive frame of mind, even giving them an early finish on the Friday for those with travel plans. It is thought that this act of good will costs the employer little and will help staff to feel valued and ensure they come back from the long weekend refreshed and energised rather than ready to job hunt.
