Dealing with difficult people: The waffler

John Cleese

Judith Germain recently discussed the problems that trainers can encounter with troublesome characters in the training room. In a continuation of this topic, we identify more of these meeting menaces - and examine how to deal with them. This time we look at 'the waffler' - the person who talks on and on, wasting time.

The Waffler

Ouch! This clip makes it looks so easy to 'take over the steering wheel' . . . Not always the case, as I am sure many will testify!

A very valuable skill!

We run a very popular 2-day Facilitation Skills workshop that covers tuition on interpersonal skills, dealing with dominant personalities (and binging quieter participants our of their shells), and provides a toolkit for facilitating the decision making process. Learning good facilitation skills and how to deal with a range of different personalities is an essential business skill, and one overlooked by far too many people. I've spoken to a LOT of people over the years who tell me that they have lots of meetings that end up with no clear way forward or any decisions being made because someone has dominated proceedings.

Spending a bit of time learning and thinking about how you facilitate meetings in your organisation can increase productivity considerably

BTW - we tend not to use video content on our courses but I love these Video Arts resources! John Cleese has made an absolute fortune from these over the years, and its interesting to see that they're still used!!
