There is no doubt that we are facing a global talent crunch. We only need to look at the demographics of today's workplace to see that many of today's leadership posts are filled by people nearing retirement, and that new talent needs to grow from within or be recruited externally to take over the reins.
 
In addition, in less than four years time Generation Y will make up nearly half of the workforce and we need to make sure that these individuals (born typically between the 1980s and 2000) are developed and managed effectively to support long-term growth and business success.
 
The good news is that boardrooms recognise that talent management drives competitive advantage and shareholder value and are committed to investing more resources to deal with the issue head-on.
