I've been a self-employed trainer for the past seven years. Along with two colleagues, we often "indulge ourselves" in the odd CPD activity or two. I guess that's because we eat, sleep and breathe Continuing Professional Development?
The same can't be said for many business owners. In the early days, I remember how easy it was to invest all my time in developing the business and forget about developing "yours truly".
We're always promoting pocket-friendly bite-sized learning for self-employed bods. However, recently I had to take a step back when I did a quick online survey. I asked entrepreneurs what kind of courses they'd like us to run to help them and their business grow. The majority didn't have a clue!
Maybe society sees "being an entrepreneur" as some who's rich, confident and successful and by attending training courses this flags up some kind of failing, weakness or chink in the armour? It IS hard work tempting self-employed folk out of hiding.
