Working with individuals to help them develop their professional and personal capabilities, and to build the effectiveness of the organisations they work in, we sometimes forget that the standard career path isn't for everyone.  People change, move on in their motivations and expectations, and want different definitions of success and achievement as they grow older.

How do we motivate these people and ensure they contribute to the organisation's goals?  Or should we accept the loss of those people are are not interested in climbing the corporate ladder?

What if you don't want to be a manager?
