Generate: How do I set up a learning community of practice?

default-16x9

On we move to question four of our Generate experiment. How do I set up a learning community of practice? As before, some answers were people and process-related, and some were all about tech and online.

  • Copy successful examples eg #chat2lrn
  • Use hootsuite for LinkedIn group monitoring
  • Use Twitter, set up a specific hashtag e.g. #chat2lrn
  • Start with online and build offline around it
  •
  • Show that everyone can be a learning champion, not just the L&D department!
  • Make it relevant and fun - builds confidence and support
  • Establish a shared purpose and vision
  • It’s not learning if they are enjoying it!
  • Get people to decide what they want to learn
  • Tie it to employee KPIs
  • They’re already there! Just need to nurture
  • Use email and all other channels to promote it
  •
  • Find three people who are passionate about it
  • Invite delegates across all levels to form an excellence forum
  • Bring in outside people to stimulate conversation
  • Go straight to the top of each business unit, explain the benefits
  •
  • Bribe them!
