Helping Your Employees Do “Deep” Work

default-16x9

Deep work is a practice and philosophy that allows your company to get more work done on your terms. The last thing you'd ever want is to have an office that is disorganized and unfocused.

Whether you work in tech or handle labor-intensive contracting jobs, the way that you go about your business starts at the top with you and trickles down. Since you set the tone with the way your company handles its work processes, it's up to you to make the most out of this by handling your work, putting strategies in place and helping your professionals execute them.

Utilize these tips to get started so that you are able to help your pros stay focused and conduct the deep work that will get you through it all.

Help Your Employees Understand Their Purpose

There's a reason that time-wasting in the professional world is at an all-time high. Studies show that we all waste too much time at work. For instance, some 50% of meetings are considered unnecessary and wasteful, 31 hours a month are spent in unproductive meetings, the average employee is interrupted close to 60 times per day, and 2 whole hours are spent recovering from distractions on a daily basis.

Some of this boils down to how we're socialized. We're always an arm's reach away from the world with our smartphones and tablets, and it feels like everyone and everything wants our attention. However, a lot of this boils down to not having passion and purpose about what we're doing.

Because of this, it's important that you take the time to always stay on top of your employee's drive and help them refocus. Your workforce will be more determined and able to work hard when they know why they're doing it. By taking the time to pour into your employees and remain a positive force, they'll be in good hands.

One exercise you can embark on is to have your employees write their life story. When you write your own book, you'll know where you came from and have a clearer idea of where you're going.

Make Focus and Meditation a Priority

Today, more businesses are placing a priority on meditation. The reason for this is that meditation helps to build focus so that you can organize your thoughts and create normalcy out of chaos.

Hold brief meetings every morning in order to set the focus and intention of the day. This way, everyone will know what they are doing and why they are doing it. From here, the day to day levels will be more focused, rather than just going through the motions.

Take Breaks on a Regular Basis

Mental fatigue is very real, so take the time to schedule breaks into everyday work.

Studies show that human beings can only concentrate on a task diligently for 4 hours. You can get more out of this by taking breaks and allowing your staff to get fresh air and go for walks between focused periods. This way, they can preserve mental strength and get the most out of their work days.

Consider these tips and pass them on to help your employees stay focused.
