Action Centred Leadership exercise

default-16x9

Hi,

I'm designing a leadership workshop and I'm looking for ACL exercises. Does anyone have anything they could share please?

Thanks

Miriam

  1. what’s the learning objective…

Hi Miriam, it may help if you can tell us what the learning objective is for this please?  If it's to simply state the key responsibilities, for a manager, under each of the headings then you should do a memory type exrcise.  For example, split the group up into 3; each sub-team representing; team, atsk or individual.  The team then uses available resources to build memorable pictures of each of the manager's responsibilities under that heading.  Each team can then present their memorabke pictures to the rest of the groups.

That's only an example if the learning objective is to memorise though, other objectives may have other more appropriate activities.

  2. Any exercise will do

    Miriam,

I run a leadership course on ACL, so if you want to DM me your email address we can talk about what would be suitable for your programme.

  3. ACL exercise

    A simple but effective approach;

Before you introduce the model, ask the  delegates to list every task they did in the previous day or week. Then give them a handout of the model and ask them to allocate their tasks to the appropriate area. Explain the theory, then in pairs or threes they can conduct an analysis of their handout.exploring whether they have the balance right, what actions are lacking, what changes might help etc.

  4. Thank you all.

    Thank you all.

The purpose of me including it in the workshop is just simply to outline the different responsibilities of a manager/supervisor so quite low level. I want them to leave the workshop with the awareness it's not just about task!

    Thanks

  5. ACL exercise

Why not go for an experiential activity that requires all three circles to be balanced?

A simple, inexpensive example would be RSVP Design's 'Workstations' exercise that requires a task to be achieved by a group, who problem-solve using verbal communication only. The task needs to be completed within a time limit but can only be achieved if everyone contributes, understands their individual part in the group process and the group members agree the way of working together. Perfect for debriefing using the three ACL elements.
