Chain Reaction Exercise

default-16x9

I am running an innovation workshop for an international company and the client has asked me to include a 'Chain Reaction' exercise. He likes this video: http://vimeo.com/31832848 Of course the customer is always right so I agreed. Has anyone run this type of exercise and can you share your experiences and key learnings please?

  1. never runa anyhting a enormous as this but….

    two questions:

    1. How long did it take 140 managers to design this enormously complex machine that does "nothing"?

    and

    2. Why did they shoot the video on such a way that you can't see most of the action on the machine?

  2. More Importantly:

    1. What did they learn from this?

    2. How has it or will it help the host organisation impact on its objectives?

I can potentially see how it might be used as a developmental process but I just wonder if that was how it was employed and if it worked?

Thanks Russ and Garry for your input.

Like you, I have only seen the video.  I do not know the background.  My client wants to run something smaller as part of my workshop because he believes it will help teach teamwork and creative problem solving.  The client will provide the materials.  I have to find the relevance and the learnings.  And I have to fit it in seamlessly!
