Hi, I have been asked to do some research on payment methods used in e-learning. E.g. e-learning scenarios in which learners pay and learning providers sell courses with solutions that allow these payments to be processed via the web and other media. Would anyone know of resources on these two issues: scenarios and available products?
Would you have experience with using any of the available merchant servers for e-learning – and what are these experiences? What e-learning scenarios do you cater for (i.e learners paying for a course, different learners are charged differently etc.)?
I have identified some generic products available and wondered whether there are any specific ones to e-learning - or are the generic products well suited?

Another two options for processing payments are Netbanx (from memory they are good if you envisage high volumes)or Worldpay (better for small volumes but they do tend to hold on to your money for a long time – typically 8 weeks). Another option is to process payments through one of the more traditional players (for example Streamline (part of Royal Bank of Scotland) or Cardnet (part of Lloyds TSB). In this case you will need your own secure servers that meet the requirements of the processing company. Also, be aware my own information on this is now about 2 years out of date and I know payment processing companies are regularly reviewing their policies with regard to e-commerce.
