“I dont have customers, I just drive trains”

default-16x9

Hello,

What expereince have you had when working with people who don't see customer service as part of their role and how to successfully get the message across that we all have customers (regardless of what role) and therefore giving them great service is vital.

Your title put me in mind of a Customer Service course I facilitated some years ago for "service area" staff at a college.  I was told by the participants that "they didn’t have customers they had students!"  The first part of the session was a bit like pushing treacle up hill, but fortunately the penny dropped by the end of the day.

  2. I don’t have customers…

Reminds me of when I was the only non-uniformed member of the training team in the fire service (training the whole service on IT systems).  Those firefighters who didn’t want to learn, came up with the excuse, "I didn’t join the fire service to learn IT; I joined to fight fires".  Some uniformed members of staff had forgotten (or ignored) the fact that we are in the 21st century and that IT is a fact of life.
