  1. icebreaker

    Hey Theresa,

I’m curious – I too remember something very similar, from attending a CIPD meeting in Solihull, maybe 7-8 yrs ago. It wasn’t the same place you heard it was it?

  2. Chinese or Japanese?

I don’t speak Chinese so I could be wrong, but I do speak Japanese and ‘itchy’ ‘ knee’ is Japanese for 1, 2.  I don’t think this is the same in Chinese (but as I say, I could be wrong).

  3. Japanese counting

The one I know is Japanese, when you say the number you put an action with it to help remember the words.  I have done my best to remember all the actions, but 6, 9 and 10 I just can’t think off.
    1      Ichi  – Scratch your…
2     Ni (pr Knee)  – Knee
3     San  – Point to the sun
4     Shi (pr shee) – Point to a girl
5     Go – Walk on the spot
    6     Rokku –
7     Shichi (pr shi’chi with a hard ‘ch’ sound, as in ‘church’) Ski on the spot
    8     Hachi  – Sneezing action
    9     Kyu (pr queue)
    10  Ju
