Licensing? or other

default-16x9

We have a small family owned niche training business with a handful of self employed associates running courses for us.  We want to withdraw from the business whilst if possible retaining some income stream.  Having spent time investigating a sale it seems we have little to sell (other than goodwill) as course material is replicable.

So we are looking at other options and wondered about some form of licensing system whereby our associates run our courses in return for a license fee, or 'commission'.  Ideally we do not want further involvement in the day to day running, maintaining content or dealing with clients.

Does anyone have any experience of such licensing?  Would it meet our requirements or is there better way?  Or would anyone like to discuss taking on and developing the business?

Please use comment for general suggestions of private message for specifics to preserve anonymity.  Thanks

  1. Licensing

I know that Emma Sue Prince of Unimenta licenses The Advantage training, so it may be worth talking to her  ([email protected]).

I'd also talk to your Associates – it's their livelihood at stake, they may have some ideas on how to move forward or be prepared to take on extra responsibility.

if you go down the licensing route, I guess that the cut you take will need to be sufficient to pay for someone to do the day to day running of the business. Ultimately you need someone who understands your nice, I imagine, although another training company that is already set up to deliver training may take it on.

    Good luck with it all
