Managing Remote Teams / Building Remote Relationships

default-16x9

Hi all,

I have been asked to design a course on Managing Remote Teams with two facets:

Managing the Team - overcoming the logistics of having teams reporting to you in different countries, time zones etc while being mindful of cultural differences, communication styles etc

Building Team Spirit – between local and remote teams, all in the same role but thus far with little or no interaction with each other.

It has been suggested that ‘training’ is provided to both local and remote staff simultaneously using Video Conference and unfortunately any kind of travel is out of the question due to the current economic climate.

If anyone has any materials, suggestions, recommended resources etc it would be very much appreciated.

  1. Course outline
    Hi,

I have a course outline that you can have. I designed a short bespoke module for a client recently, and thought that the subject matter warranted a full day. Not designed the full day though, as no-one has requested it yet.

Please email me at [email protected] and will happily send it over.

Can I also recommend a great book “Virtual leadership – Secrets from the round table for the multi-site manager” by Jaclyn Kostner

    Hi

We run a course like this very successfully around the world. The course outline might give you a kick start: http://www.structuredtraining.com/solutions/open_courses/leading_and_managing_remote_teams_open_course.html

and one for sales people specifically: http://www.structuredtraining.com/solutions/sales/managing_and_leading_remote_sales_teams.html

Remember that every organisation has unique concerns in this area so you’ll need to research their specific problems to ensure you get the balance and emphasis right.

  3. I have a remote team diagnostic tool you might want to use
    Hi
I have developed a 32 question diagnostic which you could send out to all team members as pre work which will give you ample material for discussion of where the high and low points are in the team against 8 key areas. It would work really well to present the results using Webex or similar, and then get the various locations to break out and come up with some solutions, before reconvening in a follow up session to share and explore.
If you are interested, ping me and I will show you what it’s all about.

  4. Yes please
Thank you Michael – if you could share the questionnaire that would be excellent!
