Setting up a CPD awarding framework for a trade association’s members

default-16x9

Hi,

I am setting up a CPD awarding framework for members of the trade body I work within. I have engaged with the CPD Standards Office on this and they are looking to charge for accrediting our learning and development options. What I can't seem to get to the bottom of is whether I need accreditation. I simply wish to award members who engage with a variety of L&D activities provided by our trade association as part of membership, with a view to awarding time spent and a token award of points towards a recommended (but not mandated) CPD total we suggest. Can anyone tell me whether I need to have my CPD framework accredited for it to be validated or can I simply award CPD as a registered trade body without conforming to the standards set by a body such as the CPD Institute?

  1. Hi there, the simple answer
Hi there, the simple answer is no. I may be looking at this too simplistically as I’m a bit confused with the talk of Trade Associations etc. However, many companies now are awarding ‘badges’ to validate learning and CPD. Badges can be awarded for achievements in both non-digital and digital learning but can be awarded in a digital format so that a person can take them with them. Sites like linked-in allow people to upload their ‘badges’ to demonstrate their learning achievements and the good thing is the learner can take the badges with them wherever they go. I would do your research possibly with the search ‘using badges in learning’. Hope that helps – It would be good if you could provide an update here on what you have found. Hope that helps.

    1. Hi Clive,
      Hi Clive,

That is very useful feedback. I will update you when I have researched more.
