Six Thinking Hats

default-16x9

Hi there,

I'm delivering a Six Thinking Hats workshop to my colleagues next month

It's starting to take shape but the only thing that's troubling me is the order of the hats during the practical activity (actually wearing the hats). I want each group member to wear one hat at a time when making a decision to stimulate parallel thinking.

After previously looking on Tz for some inspiration I came across this thread- https://www.trainingzone.co.uk/item/161559

My intention is to replicate this sequence and discussion- Viagra! (maybe making it a bit longer) However I just wanted to check that this is the right approach to getting the best out of the exercise as I've heard its best to use red at the start to get emotions out of the way....!

Suppose another question could be- does it even matter what order the hats are worn?

Many thanks

Adam

I find that the question or problem to be solved will drive/shape the hat wearing sequence. I recall that Dr De Bono poses some very innovative challenges with questions like

If dogs could talk what would change?

His book – it is ages since I read it! – also has a number of scenarios for the "wearing" sequence that you could adapt/tweak in a given situation

I have one powerpoint slide around a building issue that I can send you [email protected]

PS – In his book he also has another scenario about what would we do if we had a third arm which gets closer by analogy to your Viagra reference etc etc

I once found this while doing research on the internet. Perhaps it will help you.
