Coaching and mentoring: your last chance to help create a definition!

default-16x9

There's one month left to add your views to the Employment National Training Organisation's (EmpNTO) definitions of coaching, mentoring and tutoring.

As part of the new revised occupational standards, official definitions will appear in the new units L21 and L22, which aim to define the difference between coaching and mentoring. Unit L22, Provide Workplace Mentoring and Unit L23, Facilitate Individual Learning Through Coaching. L22 is a new unit and L23 replaces the existing unit C26. PDF files (which require you to download Acrobat to be read) are available with the full details of each unit on the website. To put forward your views, either register for one of the remaining Focus Groups in September and October (there are still some places available), or send them an e-mail.

Says the EmpNTO: "The NTO places great weight on the views of those currently undertaking ‘employment’ jobs - or helping people to develop the necessary skills and qualifications. This consultation is open to all."

The Employment NTO is also leading a government-funded project for the DfEE, looking at the qualifications of trainers who deliver Government Funded Work-based Learning to support the establishment of the Learning and Skills Council and the Adult Learning Inspectorate.

The project will be looking at identifying a range of qualifications based on the Employment NTO Training and Development Standards, that will meet the varied training needs from all those who deliver government funded training in England. Consultation will also take place on this issue - for further details, contact Tony Green, Project Manager Chief Executive at [email protected].
