Business acumen/Commercial awareness

default-16x9

As an L&D professional, what do you believe the business expects you to know about, or be skilled in, in relation to business acumen/commercial awareness?

I'm thinking subjects such as  managing budgets; corp strategy; finance for non-financial managers etc.

  1. Commercial Awareness

I think employers expect people to make informed decisions based on data and evidence, and look for opportunities to get a good deal wherever possible, ability to manage the budgets effectively and understand value for money concept. This is a fancy way of saying businesses really want people with common sense – who will not waste the resources and care about the profit.

    Hope this helps

  2. Basic Business Understanding

I think that core skills for all business people are an understanding of finance and the marketing (commercial) impact of what they do.
