Recognising the enormous potential that new training technologies will make in the next millennium and the urgent need for new knowledge and skills to help us to exploit this opportunity, the Institute of IT Trainers has developed the online trainer, an Internet-delivered course where the medium truly is the message.

The course is aimed at trainers who have a responsibility for the production and delivery of online training materials, whether in a project management capacity, or as writer, designer, author or online tutor. It will also be useful for trainers wishing to gain an appreciation of the potential, benefits and risks of online training, to assist them in working with outside vendors or with online learners within their organisations.

The course aims to provide the following:
- an understanding of the place of online learning within an organisation's training strategy
- experience of online learning from the learner's perspective - an overview of the process whereby online training is designed, developed and delivered
- the skills necessary to design, develop and deliver online training materials
- practical experience in taking an online learning project through to implementation.

The course includes more than 20 hours of interactive self-study modules, along with many practical assignments and opportunities for dialogue with tutors and fellow learners. Successful students receive the Certificate of Online Training Design and Development Skills and are eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute.

The first 20 students are commencing the course now. Over the coming months, the Institute expects to attract many more trainers, regardless of their speciality, from the UK and overseas.

The course costs £960 plus VAT for IITT members, or £1,200 plus VAT for non-members. With membership costing just £50, it makes sense to join!
