Train the IT Trainer

I'm currently designing an inhouse " Train the IT Trainer course " ( estimated to run for 2-3 days ). Our delegates will be training both MS packages and some in-house bespoke systems on a 1:1 and classroom basis across the company.

Any suggestions on course content would be well received...

  1. Send them on a proper course or…
    Recommendation is don’t try and do it on the cheap if they are going to be professional trainers, ensure that they get professional training (and refreshers).

    Having said that – I had to do some in-house training (TTT) for people who would be training financial technical info to their department as a 1 off event and I included in my 2 day course:

    Presenting Skills
    Preparation
    Orangising the presentation
    Using your voice
    Training vs presenting
    Learning Styles
    Learning Methods
    Training Styles
    Body Language
    Questioning Techniques

    with bags of practice for a maximum of 6 attendees.

    I agree, don’t bother and save yourself the stress! You cannot just turn people into trainers, some people take to it, others don’t and as most courses like this last a couple of days there isn’t a lot of time for that transformation to take place!

  4. keep it simple
    I am an IT tutor myself and the only advice I can give to you is to remind those training how they learnt the subject and convey this to their trainees.

    I am a bit unclear about the training you are providing – are you training people who are already IT competent to cascade training to others?

    I would imagine if that is the case training needs analysis would be good to include and basically the learning cycle – planning, delivering and evaluating training.

    Trainers have to be able to identify learning styles and have the confidence and humour to overcome any barriers to training.

    Avoid any unecessary IT’isms – please – it is hard enough for trainees to memorise and learn without having to learn another language as well. Keep it simple and straightforward
