DFEE reports that skills requirements are increasing

default-16x9

The annual 'Skill Needs in Britain' survey published by the DFEE as part of 'Labour Market and Skill Trends 2000' reports that over two-thirds of employers with more than 25 employees have increasing skills needs because of growing competition, changing work practices and new technology.

Some skills gaps were identified because of problems with recruiting the right staff, but one in seven employers reported that skills were lacking for existing employees.

Areas of industry reporting particular skills shortages included finance and business services, transport and public administration.

The report also highlights a significant problem in the lack of basic skills in the UK.
