As from February 1st Cameron Shea & Company are launching a new Open Learning Course - which is directed especially at those middle and senior managers who want to create their own small business as an independent project manager or as a management consultant.
The course creators, who are based in Northamptonshire are Institute of Management Consultancy-Accredited Training Providers; and are the only such organisation to offer an introductory level course on consultancy and independent project management as a new career.
Students, who are often senior managers or directors, come from a wide range of both private and public sector backgrounds, across all career disciplines and encompassing a huge range of skills. Course tutor, Diana Cameron-Shea, who has spent most of her thirty year career in consultative practice explains ‘Some of the people who take the courses we create do so as a result of redundancy or enforced early retirement. Often they’re still in shock, so the first thing we do is a self-audit to establish what skills they have and how they’ll transfer these into consultative work.' Cameron-Shea uses her own experience of redundancy, coupled with her counselling training, to help delegates to locate and focus on the positive aspects of their experience. The three Module programme is designed to help delegates to understand consultancy and independent project management work and to learn how to attract clients. She says, 'The course gives them a lot to think about, particularly with regard to self-employment. Talking about the course, as they are advised to do, with their families and their friends helps to keep their feet on the ground and makes them understand their own value to others'.
All IMC-Accredited Training Providers undergo a very stringent Quality Assurance procedure, which is reviewed annually; and are visited regularly by an IMC representative. The Approved Courses count towards IMC continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and cover the skills expected of a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).
