Apprenticeships have been around for decades, and usually incorporate on-the-job training together with some classroom study. Apprentices are usually in the 16-25 age range, but this age bracket is changing, as is the perception (and reality) of apprenticeships as confined to manual labour. Business from industries as wide reaching as law, journalism, healthcare, telecoms and more take on apprentices in their thousands every year.
