Induction is the process of helping a new employee understand the culture, the rules, the expectations, and all that they need to know to work effectively within their new organisation. It is about setting them up to be successful in their new role. Ideally, it is also about helping the company understand their new employee and setting up a beneficial psychological contract between the employee and the organisation. It is about getting them ‘aboard’ the organisational ship, hence the later term of ‘onboarding’.
