Broadly, mobile learning is the act of learning using mobile devices (smartphones, tablets etc). Many learning technologies companies develop learning materials to be mobile-first, therefore designed with the constraints in mind (visual over text, concise not lengthy). However, mobile learning can also take place using existing open source technologies and platforms such as Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube.

Most tech and L&D industry analysts predict the percentage of learning in the business to be delivered on mobile devices to increase as time goes on, mainly due to advances in processing power but also through initiatives such as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).
