Disability Discrimination Act: a source of help

5 Disability Awareness Training

Nigel Parry-Price asked for help with Discrimination Awareness Training.

I can't help directly with this training, however a talk with Mike Gillen at Training Exchange Services in Glasgow may be worth a few minutes.

They recently put together an exhibition in Northern Ireland called Best Practices '99, and looking at the brochure a couple of the sessions covered the issue of disability.

One session was called "Have You Prepared? - Part 3 Disability Discrimination Act" covering Important Implications for suppliers of goods, facilities and premises and meeting legal requirements, and the other session was called "Customer Care and Disability - Good Practices", covering barriers experienced and how they can be overcome and the establishing of a positive policy and review mechanism.

Both sessions were to be headed by Una Wilson from Disability Action. Sorry I haven't got her number but Mike may be able to help.

Mike Gillen can be contacted at

Please mention me to him if anybody gets in touch. Thanks
