Do we really value our employees?

An article by John Allen on the BehaviourBuzz website begins:

"Our people are our greatest asset". How often do we hear or read this statement from senior managers? I have no doubt that some say it is because their competitors said it in their annual report and it seems to be the right thing to say. Others sincerely believe it to be so. My concern is that so few behave in a way that demonstrates this belief.

First line and middle managers are also heard to say how important and valuable is the knowledge and skills their teams possess. Do they tell this to their team? Do they 'walk this value', to paraphrase a well known saying?"
