IT professionals need to develop Business Skills

default-16x9

Research has shown that many IT Managers and Leaders lack traditional people skills and that this can result in around 80% of IT projects failing owing to their lack of skill in handling project personnel.

The British Computer Society (BCS) have joined forces with The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants(CIMA) to deliver a series of CIMA mastercourses. The Professional Development Portfolio is aimed at IT professionals who need business management skills to complement their existing IT knowledge.

These courses are designed to cover:

  • Persuasive Techniques
  • Time Management
  • Presentation and Negotiation Skills

These courses have been put together using Knowledge Pool, the training arm of ICL.

It may appear strange at first glance for the British Computer Society and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants to join together to provide such training, however, in many organisations, even today, IT Managers appear to have evolved from an accountancy background or have had some close relationship with Finance because of the financial investment involved with IT.

The variety of courses offered are both open schedule or in-company meaning that not only will larger organisations benefit from such training, but allowing a choice of course, will also make this training more attractive for individuals (freelancers) and smaller organisations to participate in these training sessions.
