Last weeks Personnel Today magazine carried a lighthearted look at management books. By all accounts, to gain gravitas in the world of management theorising, the best thing to do is to die, leaving behind a portfolio of revered management theory.

Personnel Today cites the likes of Attilla the Hun (Victory Secrets of Attilla the Hun, Wess Roberts), Jesus (The Leadership Wisdom of Jesus, Charles Manz) and, among the more unlikely contenders the Wizard of Oz (The Oz Principle, Connors, Smith and Hickman) as those who have been successfully giving advice from beyond the grave.

According to the 'ghost writers' for these particular management gurus, Attila warns agains indulging "any warrior or chieftain who schemes against one of our own", Jesus expouses the wisdom of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and the Wiz suggests talking to staff through a loud speaker hidden behind a wall (the last one isn't strictly true, but may as well have been!).
