Subject: Needs Analysis - for the Organization

Many training professionals are asked to set up a long term,
organization-wide strategic training and development plan to ensure that the workforce will have and maintain the skills required and will perform effectively.

If you have had an assignment such as this, how did you approach the task? How did you determine the needs? Tell us about the plan you produced. Was the plan accepted? carried out? Was it effective?

Do you think this is a sensible kind of thing for a CEO or President to request?

Needs analysis is, in my view, a weak spot in the training and consulting fields, and the more people become aware of the fact that simplistic approaches are not usually effective - the better. Any comments appreciated.
