‘Performance Management for Front Line Managers’ by Christine Chun

default-16x9

Performance Management for Front Line Managers.
by Christine Chun.
Fenman, 2000.
A4 Ringbinder, £195 plus £4.90 p&p.
ISBN 1 872483 89 5

This is an interesting collection of 20 activities that can be used in training programmes for new or developing managers and concentrates on the effective dealing with staff from identifying their training needs to encouraging continuous development. Although aimed initially at trainers, offering practical activities to include in their training programmes, a substantial number of action plans, frameworks and checklists are included for managers to take away with them for their further development and many of the activities can be easily modified for individual use by managers themselves.

The 20 activities follow the standard format of an introduction; statement of purpose; application; a summary of what happens; timing; materials and resources; and ‘how to do it’, including information material, suggestions for material for a pre-activity input and a session on the topic. All relevant handouts, briefs, and OHP slide masters are provided.

The activities range from an introduction to line management, developing a training matrix and working with the training department; through writing effective procedures, motivation, teamwork and customer care; to monitoring quality, performance reviews and sustaining improved performance.

Well recommended for the practical library of the training department for wide reference.
