What really is ‘Knowledge Management’?

default-16x9

I kept hearing about this 'Knowledge Management' and how every trainer should make sure they are up to it. I went to the link in the last issue of LeaningWire and downloaded a
copy of 'Intellectual Capital and You' by Jack Gordon. I have not read such
a load of gobbledy gook as that for a long time!

Assuming I was losing it, I asked the question on UKHRD and from the replies received I interpret it as Corporate Communications that should have been in place for the last '100' years; the only contact training would have with it is in communication training, particularly data storage and maintenance; and if it is anything more than that, what use is knowledge alone.

Knowledge leads to skill in which the knowledge is used - without the skills task the knowledge is a little academic island with very little use. Even product knowledge has to be used by e.g marketing or reps to make it of any purpose. Again - am I missing something?
