Department for Education and Skills gets its own website

default-16x9

A month after its creation on 8 June, the Department for Education and Skills has its own website.

The new website can be found at http://www.dfes.gov.uk and has a cleaner feel to its predecessor at http://www.dfee.gov.uk , which is currently redirected to the new site. The site maintains its news area of press releases, and the area which details progress with current government consultations is now much easier to reach - previously it was tucked well away. There's also a direct link to recent ministerial speeches.

The new website has kept the series of links to related areas for adult learning, employers, HE students, job seekers, parents, school governors, teachers and young people - the site works quite well as a portal for those wishing to find out more about the work being undertaken by government agencies and education institutions.

Interestingly, the Department for Work and Pensions, which has taken over the employment responsibilities from the old DfEE, has a less user-friendly site, although it does have immediate impact with its use of purple, lime green and pink! There's also a useful list of ministers and their responsibilities at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/ministers.htm .
