Government e-plans are way off the mark

A survey conducted by research firm Forrester have highlighted that the government are nowhere near delivering the promises that they made for getting all their services online by 2005. This could result in a loss of taxpayers money by up to £3.7bn if they do not keep their strategy on target.

An assessment was carried out by technology companies with a majority claiming that the government will fail to carry out their plans. They feel that the senior people do not really understand what needs to be done and even that the internet strategy is very patchy.

The survey also highlighted that there appeared to be an inability to coordinate its online ventures, as there will be no problem getting each department online, however integrating them all is a different matter. Half of those interviewed also stated that they blamed cultural issues as being the biggest obstacle and others stated procurement issues are to blame.

The government did hit back by stating that they thought the survey as 'weedy' and that it demonstrated that the researchers did not really know much about what was going on. A Cabinet Office spokesperson did claim that a lot of work still needed to be done and that there is commitment from the top tier for the need to change.
