Pentaguard hacking group deface Government sites

default-16x9

Government sites in the US, UK and Australia have been targetted by a group calling themselves the Pentaguard hacking group just to prove that it could be done.

Apparently the attacks are reported to have happened over the weekend at the same time across three different timezones with the hackers logo and a message reading 'presents the largest .gov and .mil mass defacement in the history of mankind'.

The sites targeted in the UK include the Mad Cow Disease site, www.bseinquiry.gov.uk, and Kingston upon Hull LEA City government, www.hull-lea.gov.uk.

Pentaguard have previously claimed responsibility for attacking the Chinese government sites as well as Kuwait, Romania, Georgia and Vietnam.

These attacks, however, do not appear to indicate a serious breach of security at government level, it looks as though these hackers have defaced websites hosted on web servers that have well-known security problems and that only tend to be found on these types of servers.

One Response

  1. Gov should keep up with security
Amazingly how govs of US, UK and Australia have money to keep networks such as echelon running but don’t have money to pay trained personel to keep their servers public servers secure. Pentaguard is not one of the most sophisticated groups of the underground but it sure has a good strategie of striking gov, mil and other commercial and edu sites.
