Does anyone have any information or guidance on developing policies for psychometric testing?

Try the IPD they have policies and guidance in this area. Failing them try the British Psychological Society. I have some info myself but you should get something more formal from these bodies.

It is quite ok to use various tools in this area however we always scope out the territory AND ask the client what it is they want.

We also have a view about sticking labels on people – and given that we are pro development of managers/staff/companies/ stakeholders we feel that most of the tests are fine as a start point – in fact the only real use is to start a dialogue.
From there you can work on development – otherwise why do the testing in the first place.

There are many tests around – however there is a growing interest in soft skills and it is widely agreed that it is the soft skills that differentiate people so look for tools that will give you info about the individual in that area. Try Emotional Intelligence – search the web. Good luck
