I am a Trainer/Instructional Designer for Bird & Bird in London. I hold a TAP Diploma in Learning & Development and have been a trainer/facilitator for 14 years.
Thanks to Rus, Barbara and Barry for your answers - you all have certainly given me a lot to think about. I guess I feel as if I'm stuck in a rut career-wise and don't seem to be able to get out of it. I think that's the main issue I have and need guidance in getting out of it!
I will certainly investigate more deeply into this and if I get stuck I'm glad to know that there are at least three people I can come back to!
This depends on how many attendees you have, but why not ask them to deliver to the rest of the group a 10 minute session on a topic of their choice? This will give everyone the opportunity to have a practice on training others, and afterwards you can give them appropriate feedback (against specific criteria like body language, delivery skills, facilitation, training resources, etc). You can support and coach them from the start by viewing their sessions beforehand.
I did this in one of my previous jobs and we had some wonderful topics like: the transportation of bananas the UK, how to make a paper airplane and, would you believe, Bazalgette and London’s sewers (which was surprisingly interesting!). All attendees took part in the practical activities and had information/handout/guides to take away with them for referring to after the class. Hope this helps Tina
I don't think mouse mats are old hat - I think they are still a good idea! My opinion is if it works, don't knock it, even if it is old (like me lol). Anyway, the mats could show common commands (like Print Preview) as either shortcut keys or how to add the icon to the Quick access toolbar. Also, the mats could show the "new bits" of MS 2010 in comparison to 2007 (or even 2003). Basically, anything which shows the difference between 2010 and the version your company is using now.
This may not be the total answer to your questions but it might give you ideas. Have a look at www.trainingcheck.com for evaluation questions. In my opinion, this website has been really handy!
I've just had a really quick look at Ribbon Hero and I think it is brilliant - lots of interesting visuals - I looked at this without sound and understood it!
I'm in the process of creating quizzes for my new system rollout and this has given me some ideas....Thanks!
Thanks Karen - I shall certainly look into this course. If this course isn't suitable, do you (or anyone else) have any other course providers?
I think I will have to invest in this course - my employers certainly won't pay for it! I can't afford thousands of pounds, but I still want to make sure that I have the best training possible.
Reminds me of when I was the only non-uniformed member of the training team in the fire service (training the whole service on IT systems). Those firefighters who didn't want to learn, came up with the excuse, "I didn't join the fire service to learn IT; I joined to fight fires". Some uniformed members of staff had forgotten (or ignored) the fact that we are in the 21st century and that IT is a fact of life.
I would totally agree with Phil - TAP is one of the best qualifications on the market. Just Google TAP qualification. I found this qualification to be far superior to C&G (though I haven't been through the PTLLS, DTLLS, etc).
I really enjoyed being on the TAP courses and have found it to be the foundation of my training career.

Hi EDM
What about the Training Foundation's Certificates in e-learning design, facilitating and implementation? These are
three separate certificates.
I have a TAP Diploma in L&D and can't rate the Training Foundation high enough!
Hope this helps

Thanks to you both for the documentation - I'm going to use these after the "learn" trainer has delivered her course!
If there's anything else you think might help, please let me know
Thanks for being so generous - best regards
